Since February 2003, Brother Dave Miller has served as Community Baptist’s Music Minister and filled a variety of other ministry roles. Under his leadership, the church’s music and worship have grown both numerically and in substance. The Worship Choir has dramatically increased in both size and capabilities. He has also revived a Children’s Music ministry that has also grown in size and abilities.

Brother Dave came to Community after having served as an interim music director at several churches over the years in Illinois and the Birmingham area. A life-long musician and singer, he’s been part of musical groups as varied as small mixed vocal ensembles and as large as the Birmingham Concert Chorale and the Alabama Singing Men. With his varied vocational background–ranging from television sports and news anchor to attorney, editor and graphic designer–Brother Dave tends to bring a lot of experience and knowledge from a variety of sources into everything he does. His innate creativity and ability to organize complex or difficult undertakings has helped the music ministry thrive and lead the way in our times of worship and fellowship. They’ve also served the church family well in a wide variety of other ways, whether creative, organizational or administrative. He not-too-jokingly calls himself Community Baptist’s JOATAMON: a Jack Of All Trades And Master Of None.

Admitting that he wondered why God was directing him to come serve what was, at the time, a small rural congregation, Brother Dave says, “I am thankful that God has prepared me and called me to serve the church family at Community Baptist.” He goes on, “We have a special welcoming, loving, supportive church family here that reflects the love of Christ in a unique and genuine way.” He adds, “In our worship, we strive to achieve a balance of styles and elements that will help each person approach a time of true worship with our heavenly Father. Worship here is as special as any place I’ve ever been and I’m eager to experience what God has in store for us in the future.”

A graduate of Samford University and the University of Alabama School of Law, Brother Dave is pursuing master’s level classes in worship studies at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His wife, Laurita Mullins Miller, is a licensed clinical social worker and nationally known religious dramatist. The Millers live in Pelham and have two adult children.

Brother Dave says his favorite words from the Bible are found in Jeremiah 29:11:

“For I know the plans I have for you"—this is the LORD's declaration—"plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope." (HCSB)

“With the changes in direction God has caused in my own life and the life of our church family that have been so amazing, how can I possibly believe otherwise?” Brother Dave asks.
